Tbilisi Seeks Resumption of Talks with Sokhumi

Georgian State Minister for Conflict Resolution Issues Merab Antadze said on August 15 that he is ready to meet with representatives of the Abkhaz separatist authorities to discuss the issue of holding a session of the Georgian-Abkhaz Coordinating Council.

?I am ready to personally visit [Sokhumi] and convince my counterparts from the de facto authorities to hold a session of the Coordinating Council,? Merab Antadze told reporters.

A session of the Georgian-Abkhaz Coordinating Council scheduled for August 2 was thwarted after the Abkhaz side refused to participate in the talks. The Abkhaz side accused Tbilisi of changing their list of negotiators, while the Georgian side denied the accusations, saying that the composition of the delegation was just a pretext for refusal.
