Ruling Party MP: Demand that Cabinet Resign after Polls Acceptable
Levan Bezhashvili, a lawmaker from the ruling party and chairman of the parliamentary committee for legal issues, told Civil.Ge on January 30 that the authorities were willing to accept an opposition demand for a constitutional amendment stipulating that the cabinet resign automatically after parliamentary elections.
The demand is one of 17 put forth by 12 opposition parties in a joint memorandum signed on January 29. Currently, in accordance with the constitution, the cabinet has to resign only after a presidential election.
The new cabinet is expected to win parliamentary approval on January 31.
