Imedi TV Broadcast License Suspended

Imedi TV has had its broadcast license suspended and its assets frozen, Bidzina Baratashvili, the Imedi TV managing director, told Civil.Ge on November 14.

?An official notification, which is a ruling of the Tbilisi City Court, was handed over to me late last night,? he said. ?The document is dated with November 7; an investigator, however, told me that he had failed to give me the document earlier because of chaos and unrest.?

The Tbilisi City Court has confirmed the report. Its press office, however, denied that the verdict had been was ruled on on November 7. ?The decision was made on November 14 upon the request of the General Prosecutor?s Office,? a City Court spokeswoman told Civil.Ge.

As indicated in the document, the reason for the court ruling, Baratashvili said, was Imedi TV?s decision to air a statement by Badri Patarkatsishvili, which, according to the court ruling, contained calls for the overthrow of the government.

Meanwhile, Nino Burjanadze, the parliamentary chairperson, met with a group of leading journalists from Imedi TV on November 14. No details of the meeting have emerged.
