Ivanov: Kosovo Independence May Cause Chain Reaction

Russian Defense Minister Sergey Ivanov called on February 9 to settle the Kosovo problem based on the principles of territorial integrity rather than on “the current political conjuncture” in order to prevent ?a negative chain reaction? among other unrecognized regions, Interfax news agency reported.

?If we imagine theoretically that Kosovo achieves independence, then other people living in unrecognized regions will ask us: ‘Are we not as good as the others?'” Ivanov said at a meeting with his German counterpart Franz Josef Jung in Spain.

He said that the concern is relevent not only in the post-Soviet space. ?In Europe this can trigger chain reaction – it can open Pandora?s Box,? Ivanov added.
