Russian MPs Hail Tbilisi Visit as ?Productive?

Russian and Georgian parliamentarians have agreed to hold consultations on Russo-Georgian relations regularly twice a year.

This decision was reached during the visit of a group of Russian parliamentarians to Georgia on June 5-6, which came after the Georgian lawmakers traveled to Moscow in March. The Russian MPs said that the visit was ?productive.?

?Unfortunately, particular negative factors have emerged in Russian-Georgian relationship recently. We have discussed all disputable issues between our countries [during the visit],? MP Ahmed Bilalov, Deputy Chairman of the Russian State Duma Committee for CIS Issues, said at the news briefing in Tbilisi on June 6.

The Russian MP hailed the forthcoming talks between the Georgian and Russian Presidents, scheduled for June 13 in St. Petersburg, saying that ?even if the sides fail to reach a final agreement on problematic issues, at least a positive atmosphere will be created.?

MP Bilalov said while commenting on Georgia?s possible withdrawal from the CIS that this is the ?sovereign right of any country.?

?Nobody in Russia considers it a tragedy,? he added.
