Russian Leader Hails CIS

Russian President Putin said in his state of the nation address on May 10 that multilateral partnership in frames of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) makes it possible “to contain conflicts” on the post-Soviet space, the RIA Novosti news agency reported.

He also said that this multilateral partnership also enables these countries “to effectively solve” issues related with economic development and security.

President Saakashvili instructed the Georgian government on May 2 to estimate the possible consequences of Georgia’s withdrawal from the CIS.
