New Rector of Tbilisi State University Appointed

Prof. Giorgi Khubua was appointed as new rector of the Tbilisi State University on April 7, replacing Rusudan Lortkipanidze.

According to unofficial reports Lortkipanidze had to file resignation after dispute with the Education Minister Kakha Lomaia, as ex-rector opposed the Education Ministry’s plans to cut the University staff from about 2 000 to 600.

“Modernization of the education system, involving modernization of curriculum is our top priority,” Education Minister Kakha Lomaia said while presenting new rector to the University staff on April 7.
