Tbilisi Calls on Russia to Promptly Respond to Crisis

The Georgian Foreign Minister called on Russia ?to act in a responsible and responsive manner to the on-going crisis? involving the cutting of the gas supply to Georgia.

This statement by the Georgian Foreign Ministry was issued on January 24 shortly after news broke that Russia reduced its gas supply to Azerbaijan, which automatically led to a decrease in gas delivery to Georgia via Azerbaijan.

The Russian side has cited damage to a compressor station on the Russian side of the Russo-Azeri border, according to Georgian officials. The incident has further worsened the energy crisis in Georgia.

?The government of Georgia continues to request explanations from Gazprom and other officials within the Russian government following the sudden and simultaneous interruptions but have so far been met with silence,? the Georgian Foreign Ministry said.
