The Parliament Discuses Issue of Withdrawal of Peacekeepers From Abkhazia
The Parliament of Georgia is discussing the possibility of withdrawal of the CIS peacekeeping forces from Abkhazian-Georgian conflict zone behind the closed doors for the moment.
It is anticipated that Parliament will approve proposal regarding the removal of peacekeeping units, consisting of Russian soldiers. President Shevardnadze stated today that he supports the idea of withdrawal of CIS peacekeepers because they “proved incapable to fulfill the obligations and keep the peace in the region”.
