Zourabichvili Plans to Set up Public Movement

Ex-Foreign Minister Salome Zourabichvili said on October 22 that she plans to set up a new public movement which, as she put it, ?will closely work with society and for society.?

?[The movement] will not work with the political parties, but [will cooperate] with those individual representatives of political parties, who share our major aims. These goals are: to prepare the country?s future, to prepare for any kind of upcoming elections – including the local elections [in 2006], as well as parliamentary [in 2008] and presidential elections [2009],? Salome Zourabichvili said at a news conference.

She reiterated once again that her dismissal was ?an attack against President Saakashvili? and not against her. Zourabichvili said that the President made ?a political mistake? by dismissing her on October 19 after a confrontation with the parliamentary majority.

?Unfortunately, instead of dissolving the Parliament, which would have increased his [President Saakashvili?s] rating among the population, Mikheil Saakashvili has compromised,? Zourabichvili said.

Earlier Salome Zourabichvili announced that she plans to travel in the Georgian regions to meet the local population there.
