Georgia Constructs ‘Modern’ Military Base in Senaki
Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili visited a military unit in the western Georgian town of Senaki on October 8. The unit, which is currently under construction, will be open by November.
“This is the most modern base in the South Caucasus, and I think that despite natural disasters [which hit the western Georgian regions], its construction should not be suspended,” Saakashvili told reporters on October 8.
The Georgian Defense Ministry launched construction of a new military unit in Senaki in April. The state budget allocated USD 9 million for this purpose. The new military base is meant for approximately 2-3 thousand servicemen.
