Investigation of South Ossetian Incidents Hindered

Authorities in breakaway South Ossetian say that the investigation of those recent incidents in the conflict zone, which triggered aggravation of situation, have not yet been launched, as the Georgian side fails to name its representatives who will probe into these cases together with their Ossetian counterparts, Press and Information Committee of South Ossetia reported on June 30.

Georgian and South Ossetian sides agreed to set up by June 25 a joint group to investigate May 29 armed clash, which resulted in death of four and one Georgian policeman, as well as disappearance of four Georgians on June 6 at the meeting of the quadripartite Joint Control Commission in Moscow on June 23.

?The [South Ossetian] group, which is led by Deputy Interior Minister, is ready to start working at any moment. But the Georgian side is not ready yet,? Mikhail Mindzaev, the breakaway South Ossetian Interior Minister, said.

Georgian officials are making conflicting statements about the issue. According to the office of the Georgian State Minister for Conflict Resolution Issues the Georgian side has already set up its group and the Interior Ministry is in charge. But the Georgian Interior Ministry could not confirm this. Interior Ministry spokesman Guram Donadze told Civil Georgia on June 30 that he is ?unaware about it.?
