Scheffer: Georgia, Ukraine Not Yet Ready for NATO Membership

NATO Secretary General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer said in an interview  published by the Russian newspaper Argumenty i Fakti on June 22 that Georgia and Ukraine are not yet ready for NATO membership.  

?NATO’s doors are open for everyone. But I can not say when Georgia and Ukraine will be invited to join us. Both of these countries are obviously not ready for NATO membership. Of course, we continue our partnership, making steps towards each other ? but not as quickly as Georgia and Ukraine would like. At first our friends should determine in which way to go ahead, because words alone about a desire to become a NATO member are not enough,? Jaap de Hoop Scheffer said as quoted by the Argumenty i Fakti.
