South Ossetia Rejects Georgian-sponsored Conference

Foreign Minister of breakaway South Ossetia Murat Jioyev said, in a statement issued by the unrecognized republic”s Press and Information Committee on June 21, that “no one from South Ossetia plans to participate” in a conference over the South Ossetian conflict, which will be held in Batumi, Adjara Autonomous Republic next month.

The international conference, organized by the Georgian government to discuss Tbilisi”s proposal over the resolution of the South Ossetian conflict, is planned for July 9-10.

“We have learned about this conference from the media sources. Apparently, the idea about holding a conference of this kind is part of a so called “peace initiative” by the Georgian President, which is designed more for a western audience rather than for real aspirations [by the Georgian side] to settle [the conflict] justly,” Murat Jioyev said.
