Opposition MP Assaulted
MP Kakha Kukava of the opposition Conservative Party was badly injured after a group of unknown men attacked and beat him late on May 16, Parliamentary Chairperson Nino Burjanadze announced at a session on May 17.
She condemned the incident and demanded that the law enforcement agencies promptly investigate the case.
Kukava?s fellow MPs from the Conservative Party accused ?political opponents? in this assault but did not elaborate further.
?We do not believe that this incident will be investigated, because all the previous incidents of this kind – including a raid on the [Conservative Party] office [in Tbilisi] and the attack against [Conservative Party member] MP Guga Tsanava [in Zugdidi, in western Georgia] have not yet been investigated,? MP Bidzina Gujabidze of Conservative Party said.
