Four Russian Peacekeepers Detained in Georgia

Georgian law enforcers detained four Russian peacekeepers in the Abkhaz conflict zone on March 21.

One officer and three soldiers from the Russian peacekeeping battalion deployed in the village of Pichori, in the Gali district, which is controlled by the Abkhaz side, were detained in the village of Ganmukhuri, in the Zugdidi region in western Georgia.

The Georgian law enforcement agencies claim that the peacekeepers have no right to move from the Gali district to the Zugdidi district without prior notification of their command and the Georgian side.

The RIA Novosti news agency reported quoting a Russian Defense Ministry official as saying that the Russian servicemen ?just lost their way? and expressed hope that the Georgian side will soon hand them over to the Russian side.
