Authorities Give up Two Seats in Election Commissions

The members of the ruling National Movement party announced today that the authorities are ready to give up two seats at lower level election commissions in order to secure political balance in the election administrations.

“The President will withdraw two members from the lower level election commission, which were appointed by him. After this, accusations that the authorities control majority of seats in the election commissions should stop,” Maia Nadiradze, who is number one in the ruling coalition’s list of parliamentary candidates told the press conference on March 2.

Composition of politically balanced election administrations was one of the main recommendations of the Council of Europe and OSCE.

It is not known yet, which opposition parties would compose two seats in the election commissions after the President withdraws its nominees.

At the moment the authorities control 8 seats in the 15-member election commissions.
