World Bank Calls Georgia for Pushing Reforms

In his letter sent to Georgian President elect Mikheil Saakashvili, President of the World Bank James Wolfensohn congratulated Saakashvili on presidency and expressed hope Georgia’s new leadership will “push forward difficult reforms needed to put back Georgia on sustainable growth.”

James Wolfensohn also says that the “Policy Options,” a paper providing the Bank’s perspective on reform scenarios, will be developed by the World Bank.

The World Bank’s Georgia Country Director Donna Dowsett-Coirolo will be visiting Tbilisi “soon to discuss with you [Mikheil Saakashvili] these scenarios and possible modalities of accelerated Bank support for reform.”
