U.S. Funds Winter Heating Program for Georgia

The sixth Georgia Winter Heating Assistance Program (GWHAP) was launched in Georgia today. Funded by the U.S. Government through the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), GWHAP provides up to USD 6 millions for heating assistance to vulnerable Georgians.

The program, administered by USAID contractor PA Consulting, will pay for electricity usage of eligible recipients during the months of December, January, and February this winter.

U.S. Ambassador to Georgia Richard Miles said today, this is the last time the United States allocates funds for winter heating program and the Georgian authorities should itself solve the problem in the future.

Beneficiaries are selected using an extensive database that has been developed and refined during the past four years of GWHAP.
