Russia Calls Georgia for Calm
Russian Foreign Ministry issued a statement on November 21 urging the Georgian authorities and the opposition to restrain from using force.
Russia urged all sides to abide by the law. “The alternative can only be chaos dragging the country once again up to the abyss of civil war,” a Russian Foreign Ministry statement said.
The statement reads that all the discrepancies during the November 2 parliamentary elections should be corrected through the legal means.
All calls for forceful measures against the President would further deteriorate situation,” the statement said.
On November 20 the U.S. Department of State condemned results of the election results as fraudulent, saying that they do not “accurately reflect will of Georgian people.”
