Delays in Vote Counting Cast Controversy

24 hours after closing the polling stations the Central Elections Commission could not count even the half of the votes cast on November 2 parliamentary elections.

The opposition National Movement, Burjanadze-Democrats and New Rights claim that the delays in vote counting is caused with “with horse-trading process” among the pro-presidential election bloc For New Georgia and the parties, which cooperate with the government, hinting on Industrialists and Revival Union, backed by Aslan Abashidze, the Head of Adjara Autonomous Republic.

The votes from the Adjara Autonomous Republic are not counted yet. Election observers reported mass ballot fraud and procedural violations in Adjara.

The opposition fears that the authorities intend to deprive the New Rights and the Burjanadze-Democrats seats in the new Parliament, as a results of mass ballot fraud.
