Tbilisi City Council Convened

(Tbilisi, Civil Georgia, November 4, 2002) – Today, after four months of delay, first session of Tbilisi City Council – Sakrebulo elected after June 2 local election is held.

Launching of Sakrebulo’s activity was delayed because of the recounting of the votes cast during the local self-governance elections on June 2. Central Election Commission announced the final results last week.

The Labor Party of Georgia and the New National Movement obtained the most of the seats in Sakrebulo.

The New Rights, Christian-Conservative Party of Georgia (Zurab Zhvania’s Team), Industry Will Save Georgia, Revival – XXI Century and Unity parties also obtained seats in the Sakrebulo.

The Socialists party appealed the court to cancel the results of the local self-governance elections because of the numerous procedural violations.
