OSCE Delivers Voter Marking Equipment to CEC

The OSCE Mission to Georgia will deliver voter marking equipment and technical support to the Central Election Commission (CEC) today in preparation for the November 2 parliamentary elections.

The OSCE Mission to Georgia reported on October 20 that the OSCE will present a sample of the more than 4,200 kg of voter marking materials to the CEC.

The total package is valued at 148,000 Euros and has been provided through the donations of the U.S. German and Swiss governments.

The donation of voter marking equipment includes sufficient invisible ink, ultra-violet lamps and batteries for parliamentary elections in precincts throughout Georgia. This technology is already widely in use in other OSCE member states, recently in Serbia and Montenegro, Belgium, Bosnia & Herzegovina and FYR of Macedonia, where it is known to be a safe and effective means of preventing multiple voting.

“The OSCE Mission to Georgia expresses its hope that the donation of this voter marking equipment will help to strengthen the electoral system in Georgia and increase the confidence of the voters and political parties in the election results,” the statement issued by the OSCE Mission to Georgia reads.
