Shevardnadze Criticizes UN, Hails US Move in Iraq

(Tbilisi. March 20, 2003. Civil Georgia) – “UN Security Council is absolutely ineffective,” Georgian President Shevardnadze said today, while commenting the unilateral use of force against Iraq by the US.

“I absolutely understand US President Bush. The UN Security Council adopted up to 27-29 resolutions regarding the Abkhazian conflict, but none of them is implemented so far,” Eduard Shevardnadze said.

Georgian President reiterated his support towards the US campaign in Iraq and expressed readiness to provide “any kind of assistance to the United States.”
