EU Concerned with Violations of Georgian Airspace
(Tbilisi, Civil Georgia, August 13, 2002) – The European Union Presidency (Denmark) issued a statement on behalf of the EU on August 12 concerning the recent violations of the Georgian airspace.
“The EU is seriously concerned about the rising tension on the Russian-Georgian border after the incidents taking place at the end of July 2002,” the statement says.
The EU Georgia and Russia “to respect their international obligations, including territorial integrity of all countries in the region. The EU encourages the parties to undertake all possible efforts to reduce the current tensions.”
“The EU welcomes the statement of President Shevardnadze undertaking to improve control over the Pankisi Gorge,” the EU Presidency statement says.
