Tbilisi-Moscow Flights Restrictions Lifted

(Tbilisi, Civil Georgia, August 12, 2002) – Georgia and Russia agree to renew Moscow-Tbilisi flights starting from August 12, Georgian Ministry of Transport and Communications reports.

The flights of Georgian Airlines were restricted from 9 am to 3 am. Russia explained such a decision with the security issues, as the military exercise was held in one of the North Caucasian towns in Russian Federation.

But the limitation on flights concerned only to the Georgian company, while the flights by the Russian Aeroflot Company is carried out regularly. Later Georgian side reciprocated and limited flights of Russian Aeroflot Company as well.

According to Tamaz Gaiashvili, President of Airzena Georgian Airlines the company was losing USD 10,000 per-day because of flight restrictions.
