Interior Ministry Reports on its Activities

(Tbilisi, Civil Georgia, July 17, 2002) – Georgian Interior Ministry made a six-month account of its activities today. According to Minister Koba Narchemashvili, the Interior Ministry’s main priority is to correctly count crime cases and make structural and staff changes.

“Crimes that used to be hidden are counted now. In addition, number of the opened cases seem to real too”, Koba Narchemashvili stated.

More than 8 thousand crime cases were registered in the first part of 2002 in Georgia and, according to the Minister, over 75% of them was opened.

Narchemashvili went on to say that 37 cases of criminal activities against foreigners happened in Georgia, most of which occurred in Tbilisi, the capital.
