Russian Duma Adopts Statement on Georgia

(Tbilisi, March 6, Civil Georgia) – Russian Duma Council unanimously adopted statement on situation in Georgia on March 6.

The statement says that Russia understands Georgia’s need in foreign military assistance, but expresses regret that Georgian government rejected Russia’s offer for the military support and accepted the US assistance.

“Russian MPs believe that US military presence in Georgia will further aggravate situation in Georgia and Caucasus region,” the statement says.

Concerning the breakaway regions of Abkhazia and South Ossetia the Duma statement says that Russia supports Georgia’s territorial integrity and peaceful solution of the conflicts.
