Five Villages of Akhmeta Region Protest

(Tbilisi, January 13, Civil Georgia) – On January 13, one more village of Akhmeta region in eastern Georgia, where Pankisi gorge is located, joined the protest of local population demanding from law enforcers to eliminate criminals’ activity in Pankisi gorge.

Already five villages of Akhmeta region protest together with members of the Union of Combatants of Afghan war fighting in the Soviet-Afghan war.

Georgian State Security and Internal Affairs Ministries visited the region and met protesters.

On January 11, Security Minister Valeri Khaburdzania stated that special operations are intended in criminal-ridden Pankisi gorge to eradicate illegal drug and arms dealings.
