The Georgian and South Osetian Sides Increase Security Measures in Connection with Murder Incident

(Tbilisi. May 5, 2003. Civil Georgia) – The Georgian and South Osetian law enforcers are jointly controlling the territory adjacent to Tamarasheni village of the Tskhinvali region – Vakhtang Rcheulishvili, personal representative of the President of Georgia in South Osetian Conflict Issues, told Civil Georgia.

As Rcheulishvili informed, the tensions has increased after murder of a father and three sons in Tamarasheni village. Another murder happened today in Artsva village, where again father and son were killed. Identity of murderers and reason of murder is yet unknown.

“There are number of versions, nothing is clear at the moment. We have created a joint team of Georgian and Osetian law enforcers, which will investigate the case. We are also trying to keep the situation under control and prevent occurrence of unmanageable processes” – Rcheulishvili said.

The local population is holding a protest action, demanding increase of security measures by the Georgian law enforcers and urgent arrival of the Interior Minister in the region. Rcheulishvili says that the South Osetian law enforcers are also actively engaged in the settlement of the situation.

Currently roads to Tamarasheni village are closed by the law enforcers and transportation is closely controlled.

Rcheulishvili also said that at the moment the Interior Ministry is holding a special meeting to discuss the increased security measures.
