Ruling Party’s Kobakhidze Lashes out at MEP von Cramon

While speaking with journalists today about MEP Viola von Cramon’s statement that the Justice Ministry ignored her request to visit imprisoned Mtavari Arkhi TV chief Nika Gvaramia, ruling Georgian Dream party chairperson Irakli Kobakhidze stated that “… [MEP von Cramon] should not be allowed anywhere, not with Gvaramia or anyone else.”

MP Kobakhidze made the assertion while criticizing MEP von Cramon for the statements she has made in the past, which per Kobakhidze, included revealing that the European Parliament resolution on media freedom, and the section about sanctioning Bidzina Ivanishvili in particular, was developed in cooperation with American partners.

MEP von Cramon responded to MP Kobakhidze’s statement by lambasting the ruling party chairperson. “Every time you think that it doesn’t go lower – he goes lower and finds even more lies,” she said.

“So sad to see that. Poor Georgia. It’s people have deserved better than that,” she emphasized, and added, “But we love you anyway and support you – no matter how low they will go.”

MEP von Cramon is not the only European Parliamentarian that was unable to visit a high-level prisoner this past week with MEP Anna Fotyga’s request to visit imprisoned ex-President Mikheil Saakashvili having been rejected by the Ministry of Justice on 4 September.
