Access to parts of David Gareji Monastery Re-opened

Access to the parts of David Gareji Monastery located on the south-eastern slope of the mountain range, re-opened today following a four-day closure.

Foreign Minister David Zalkaliani reported late yesterday that the Azerbaijani government “made a decision” to re-open access.

However, Archimandrite of the Monastery, Kirion (Oniani) believes that the problem can again take place any time in the future if the Government of Georgia does not deal with the issue “fundamentally.”

Earlier on April 25, Vladimer Konstantinidi of the Georgian Foreign Ministry noted that the commission on border demarcation will resume its work “as soon as the process of renewal of its composition is over.”
