GDDG Mulls Poroshenko’s Proposal to Join Work on Sanctions Mechanism

MP Mamuka Mdinaradze, who leads the Georgian Dream’s parliamentary faction, has confirmed that during his meeting with the Georgian Parliamentary delegation on January 19, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko offered the Georgian side to join the process of improving the mechanism of sanctions against Russia.

“We will discuss this issue thoroughly. The Georgian side has always expressed support to Ukraine and this will be the key to making our decision,” MP Mamuka Mdinaradze said on January 22.

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko told Georgian lawmakers that “the mechanism of sanctions against Russia is now being improved and the Georgian party can join the process,” according to the Ukrainian President’s press office.

“This will help draw greater attention and stimulate Europe to continue sanctions against Russia. We can add Georgian component for South Ossetia and Abkhazia,” President Poroshenko noted.

Since 2014, the United States, the EU and some other states have progressively imposed restrictive measures against the Russian Federation, in response to the illegal annexation of Crimea and deliberate destabilization of a neighboring sovereign country.
