Russian Chief Peacekeeper Responds to Tbilisi’s Criticism

Maj. Gen. Marat Kulakhmetov, Commander of the Joint Peacekeeping Forces (JPKF) stationed in the South Ossetian conflict zone, said on January 17 that the Georgian side is ?artificially aggravating the situation surrounding the Russian peacekeeping forces.?

?This is linked with the anticipated parliamentary hearings over the presence of Russian peacekeeping forces in the Georgian-Ossetian conflict zone,? Kulakhmetov told RIA Novosti news agency on January 17.

This statement was made in a response to the criticism voiced by the Georgian Foreign Ministry on January 16, when Kulakhmetov was accused of making political statements.
