Commission on Meskhetians’ Repatriation Works on Action Plan
The newly established governmental commission on the repatriation of Meskhetians to Georgia held its first session on March 28 and decided to send a mission to those places in the former Soviet republics, mainly Russia, where Meskhetians, who were deported from Georgia in 1944, currently reside.
This governmental commission, chaired by State Minister for Conflict Resolution Issues Goga Khaindrava, was set up by the President on March 5.
The commission decided to establish a small group, which will travel to the current residences of the displaced Meskhetians in an attempt to figure out their exact number. The commission has also decided to draw a map of those potential places in Georgia where they can be repatriated, the press office of the State Minister for Conflict Resolution Issues reported.
The commission will also develop an action plan which will be presented to the Georgian President for approval by April 15.
