Tbilisi-based Abkhaz Government Protests Russia’s Abkhaz Policy

In a statement published in the Georgian daily 24 Hours on December 7, the Tbilisi-based Abkhaz government-in-exile raised concerns over the recent developments in the unrecognized Republic of Abkhazia.

“The Russian authorities neglect the will of the Abkhaz population through political pressure, threats and blackmail, thus promoting chaos and confrontation among the local population,” the statement reads.

The Abkhaz government-in-exile warns that Abkhazia may become a place of armed confrontation in the Caucasus region and lays full responsibility for these consequences on Russia.

“The Russian Federation tries to obstruct the Georgian-Abkhaz peace negotiations through using all levers [available]. The Georgian side expresses protest regarding Russia’s policy in Abkhazia and confirms its dedication towards a policy of non-interference,” the statement reads.
