Exit Polls Give Lead to GDDG

Although figures from early results of two separate exit polls differ largely, both of them put GDDG ruling party ahead of its closest rival, opposition UNM party, in Saturday’s parliamentary elections.

Early results of exit poll, commissioned jointly by public broadcaster, Imedi TV, Maestro TV and GDS TV – the latter is owned by son of billionaire ex-PM and founder of ruling GDDG party Bidzina Ivanishvili – gave ruling party 53.8% of votes, followed by UNM with 19.5%.

Alliance of Patriots, according to this exit poll, has 5%, followed by Irakli Alasania’s Free Democrats – 4%; Labor Party – 3.1%; Paata Burchuladze’s State for People – 2.7%; Republican Party – 2.7%.

This exit poll was commissioned to TNS Opinion and was fielded by Tbilisi-based pollster Gorbi.

Rustavi 2 TV’s exit poll, commissioned to GfK and fielded by Tbilisi-based pollster BCG Research, gave GDDG 39.9% of votes; UNM – 32.74% and Alliance of Patriots – 5.76%.

Labor Party in Rustavi 2 TV’s exit poll has 4.21%; Paata Burchuladze’s State for People – 3.25%; Free Democrats – 3.21%; Nino Burjanadze’s Democratic Movement – 2.81%.

A party has to receive at least 5% of votes in nationwide vote in order to win seats in the Parliament under the proportional, party list system. 77 seats in 150-member parliament are up for grabs under the proportional system.

73 majoritarian MP seats are contested in 73 single-mandate constituencies.
