Georgia Takes Olympic Bronze in Freestyle Wrestling

Geno Petriashvili captured Georgia’s seventh medal of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games after winning bronze in the men’s freestyle 125 kg wrestling.

Petriashvili, 22, defeated Tervel Dlagnev of the United States in the bronze medal match.

The Georgian wrestler lost the quarterfinal to Iran’s Komeil Ghasemi, who took silver after losing to Turkey’s Taha Akgül in the final.

Georgia now has two gold, one silver and four bronze medals at the Rio 2016 Olympics.

Vladimer Khinchegashvili won gold in the men’s freestyle 57kg wrestling; Lasha Talakhadze won the gold medal in men’s over 105kg weightlifting with a world record and Irakli Turmanidze won the bronze in the same weight category.

Shmagi Bolkvadze won bronze in men’s 66kg Greco-Roman wrestling; Lasha Shavdatuashvili took bronze in men’s 73-kilogram category in judo and Varlam Liparteliani took silver in men’s 90 kg judo.
