6 Flu-Related Deaths Reported in January

Two more persons – one in Tbilisi and another one in the Adjara region – have died from H1N1 virus, according to the Georgian National Center for Disease Control (NCDC).

Two new cases bring number of influenza-related deaths to 6 in January (five deaths were caused by H1N1 virus and one by H3N2).

According to the NCDC, although level of flu activity has increased, it remains below “epidemic threshold.”

NCDC said that as of third week of 2016, about 332 cases were detected per 100,000 people – below the 450-500 mark per 100,000 people that it regards to be “epidemic threshold”.

Number of public schools, closed across the country till Monday in an attempt to prevent spread of flu, increased to 267 as of January 28.

Public kindergartens in Tbilisi have also been closed at least till Monday for the same reason.

Up to 200 other schools, most of them in the Guria and Adjara regions, also remain closed because of heavy snow.
