Deputy Chief of Security Agency Says About 50 Georgians Fight in Syria
Currently there are “up to 50 Georgian citizens” fighting for extremist groups in Syria, Deputy Head of Georgia’s State Security Service, Levan Izoria, said.
He told Tbilisi-based Imedi TV on November 27 that flow of fighters from Georgia to Syria “is no longer as high” as it was previously and it has declined “significantly” recently.
“As of today there are up to 50 Georgian citizens in Syria; we possess information about each of them,” the Deputy Head of the State Security Service said.
“Criminal prosecution has been launch against each of those individual against whom we have concrete evidence, therefore they will be held accountable to the law if they return [back to Georgia],” he said.
