New Parliamentary Faction Established
A new faction Georgian Dream-Conservatives has been established within the Georgian Dream (GD) parliamentary majority.
The new faction unites five GD coalition lawmakers from the Conservative Party including its leader and parliament’s vice-speaker Zviad Dzidziguri, plus one former UNM lawmaker, Revaz Shavlokhashvili, who has recently quit the parliamentary minority group. MP Shavlokhashvili is a majoritarian MP from Tsalka constituency in Kvemo Kartli region. The new faction is chaired by MP Giga Bukia.
Currently there are four factions within the GD parliamentary majority group with total of 83 lawmakers.
UNM parliamentary minority group has 58 lawmakers united in three factions.
A separate faction has been established by those six MPs who have quit the UNM.
Parliamentary faction is a group of at least six MPs, which gives certain privileges to its members, involving a seat and right to vote in the parliament’s bureau (the body which determines the parliamentary sessions’ agenda), guaranteed seats in committees, investigative and other ad hoc commissions and parliamentary delegations, as well as allocation of more time during the debates and discussions in the Parliament.
