Estonian President to Visit Georgia

President of Estonia, Toomas Hendrik Ilves, will pay a working visit to Georgia on July 4-6 to discuss “political and economic reforms in Georgia,” the Estonian President’s office said on Sunday.

The Estonian President will meet with his Georgian counterpart Mikheil Saakashvili, PM Nika Gilauri, as well as opposition and civil society representatives.

Toomas Hendrik Ilves said in remarks released by his office, that in a European sense “democracy and economic welfare are intertwined and a successful state, oriented towards future, should contribute equally to both of these directions.” He also said that ‘state’ in this context was not a mere slogan, but “stands for a responsible agreement between people and the government.” He said that mutual respect and dialogue between the authorities and opposition, as well as strong civil society was also important in this regard.
