Turkish PM to Visit Georgia

Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan will pay a one-day visit to Georgia and meet with President Saakashvili in Batumi on May 17.

Nino Kalandadze, Georgian deputy foreign minister, said on May 17, that this visit was “important” in terms of supporting trade and economic relations between the two countries.

“Despite a lot of skeptical assessments made from outside, that there is no favorable [investment] climate in Georgia, that Georgia poses a threat, the country like Turkey is carrying out very serious investments in various regions of Georgia,” Kalandadze said at a press conference.

Turkey remains Georgia’s major trading partner for last four years. Georgia’s foreign trade volume with Turkey was slightly over USD 1 billion in 2009.
