Edison Research Commissioned for Exit Polls

Two leading Georgian national TV stations, Rustavi 2 and Imedi, commissioned exit polls for the May 30 local elections to U.S. polling firm, Edison Research, the two television stations announced on April 28.

Results of the planned exist polls will include estimates of the vote for Mayor of Tbilisi and the share of party vote for Tbilisi City Council, executives of Edison Research said.

Joe Lenski, an executive vice president and Rob Farbman, senior vice president of Edison Research, held a presentation of the planned exist polls in Tbilisi on April 28.

About 100 voters will be interviewed by locally recruited and trained interviewers, at a random sample of 75 polling stations in Tbilisi. The firm says that it expects to collect completed questionnaires from approximately 7,500 voters on the election day. Rustavi 2 and Imedi television stations will announce the results as soon as polling stations will be closed at 8pm local time on May 30.

Exit polls commissioned by the Georgian national television stations suffered with lack of trust in previous elections. Imedi and Rustavi 2 in their reports about the planned exit polls focused on the company profile of Edison Research.

“We tried to find a company which has a huge international credibility, so we have chosen Edison Research,” Giorgi Dzidziguri, executive director of Rustavi 2 TV, said.
