Georgia hopes it will sign deep and comprehensive free trade agreement with European Union under the Polish EU presidency, President Saakashvili said after meeting with PM of Poland Donald Tusk in Tbilisi on March 11.

Poland will take EU’s rotating presidency on July 1, 2011.

“Turkish economy flourished after receiving such [free trade] regime with EU and it will be an important progress for Georgia too, similar to association agreement on which we are working together,” Saakashvili said.

PM Tusk said that during its EU presidency Poland would elaborate specific plan on easing visa requirements with participants of Eastern Partnership initiative, including for Georgia.

He also said at a joint briefing with the Georgian President, that Georgia could count on Poland’s help both in bilateral relations and on international affairs.

President Saakashvili said that PM Tusk was “the head of the most successful government in Europe.”

“Poland is the only country in Europe, whose economy showed positive growth last year,” Saakashvili said. “We will try to catch up to you this year in terms of economic growth rate.”

The Polish PM visited Georgia on March 11 as part of his trip to South Caucasus states.
