U.S.-Georgia Talks on Democratic Reforms

Michael H. Posner, the U.S. assistant secretary of state for democracy, human rights, and labor will visit Georgia on November 17-18.

He will lead an interagency team to participate in a working group meeting on democracy under the auspices of the U.S.-Georgia Charter on Strategic Partnership.

The working group is one of those four, which were  established to address priority areas of bilateral cooperation identified by the Charter. Security, economic development and people-to-people relations are three other priorities. Bilateral working group on security issues held its first meeting in October in Tbilisi.

“During the Democracy Working Group, the sides will discuss progress and cooperation on a range of democratic reforms in Georgia,” the U.S. embassy in Tbilisi said on November 16.

Tina Kaidanow, the U.S. deputy assistant secretary for European and Eurasian affairs, who is already in Tbilisi, co-chairs the Democracy Working Group for the U.S.

During the visit the U.S. delegation will also meet with a range of political party, media, and civil society representatives, according to the U.S. embassy.
