Chief Prosecutor Replaced
MP from ruling party, Murtaz Zodelava, was appointed on September 28 as new chief prosecutor, replacing Mamuka Gvaramia, lawmakers and the prosecutor’s office said.
Zodelava, 33, was first deputy chairman of the parliamentary committee for legal issues; his MP credentials will now be annulled.
Mamuka Gvaramia, who served on the post since November, 2008, was appointed as chief prosecutor of Tbilisi.
The General Prosecutor’s Office has been merged with the Justice Ministry as a result of the constitutional amendments in October, 2008. A Justice Minister is at the same time a Prosecutor General; a post of chief prosecutor is a separate position dealing with every-day activities of the prosecutor’s office.
