TV Reports: Envoy to Spain Considered as New Economy Minister

Rustavi 2 TV reported on August 24, that PM Nika Gilauri will name Georgia’s ambassador to Spain, Zurab Pololikashvili, 32 as new Economy Minister.

A similar report was first reported by the public television on August 22 saying that Pololikashvili is “President Saakashvili’s team member.”

No official confirmation or denial of the report was made by the authorities. The Georgian national television stations are usually used for leaking official information.

Prime Minister, Nika Gilauri, who sacked Lasha Zhvania from the post of Economy Minister on August 21, said he would name the new minister within two weeks, as envisaged by the law.

In 2005 Pololikashvili was appointed as deputy foreign minister and then ambassador to Spain in 2006. Before joining the Foreign Ministry ინ 2005, Pololikashvili worked for TBC Bank for seven years, including on senior managerial positions.
