Opposition Says to Discuss Georgia’s Security, Democracy with Biden
Several opposition leaders said they would prioritizes Georgia’s security and democratization issues at a meeting with visiting U.S. Vice President Joe Biden on July 23.
“The United States is rendering assistance to Georgia and its territorial integrity in frames of strategic partnership. Therefore, we will discuss the internal political situation as well as the issues of threats the country is facing,” Irakli Alasania, leader of Alliance for Georgia, said before the meeting.
“We will discuss security and democracy issues. The both issues are vital for the country’s development. They are absolutely interlinked issues because there cannot be any security in the country without its democratic development; the country cannot be stable without it. These are those issues which have a principled importance for the future of our country,” Nino Burjanadze, leader of Democratic Movement-United Georgia, told journalists before the meeting.
“It is impossible to maintain stability in the region without freedom and democracy,” Levan Gachechiladze, an individual opposition politician, said.
