Russian Deputy FM Meets Georgian Church Envoy

Russia’s Deputy Foreign Minister, Grigory Karasin, met on July 4 in Moscow with Georgian Orthodox Church’s delegation, led by head of Georgian Patriarchate’s foreign affairs department, Metropolitan Gerasim of Zugdidi and Tsaishi.

“In the current, uneasy situation existing in relations between the two countries, cultural-humanitarian ties between the churches of Russia and Georgia continue to be an important channel for maintaining tradition of friendship and mutual understanding between our people,” the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

In Moscow, the Georgian church’s delegation also met with Russian Patriarch Kirill on July 1.

The Russian Patriarch told the Georgian church’s delegations that the visit “will become a new positive step towards brotherly relations of our churches and improvement of relations between our countries.”

“I think that our relations will become an example for our peoples and our countries,” Metropolitan Gerasim said.
